The yellowfin tuna (Thunnus albacares) is a large member of the Scombridae family found in tropical and subtropical pelagic waters worldwide. It can reach a size of around 250 kg and is recognizable by its yellow sickle shaped dorsal fin and small finlets. It is a fast and formidable predator and feeds on small fish, squids and pelagic crustaceans. Yellowfin tuna are an important commercial species prized by the fishing industry, though tuna populations have been dwindling in recent years.
